Why I transitioned offerings from spin to strength training.
One month into opening my business I found out I was pregnant. This is an absolute blessing we were hoping for however it did bring some challenges as a new business owner. Throughout my pregnancy I was sure I’d be moving enough teaching multiple spin classes every day that I would stay in great shape. Well, fast forward to my third trimester there I was looking at 60lbs + added to the scale. I was tired, weak, and out of breath everywhere I went. I just thought “This is just what it’s like being pregnant.”
My son was born. Time went on and I worked like hell to lose more than I had gained. Somewhere during this time I began strength training with kettlebells. The more I embraced strength training the more positive changes I saw in my body composition and performance. I continued to focus more on strength training and less on spin. Invested in equipment like racks, barbells, and cable towers for my gym.
I got pregnant with my daughter. I had been strength training pretty steadily by this time. So, throughout the next 9 months I lifted (heavy) 4x/week and did cardio (spin or running) about 1x/week.
Fast forward to the end of my second pregnancy and I was up around 20-25lbs from where I began. While giving birth my daughters shoulder got stuck in my hip. I had the strength to get her out of that scary situation very quick. The whole process of giving birth to her was only a few very strong pushes & I recovered so quickly that I was able to get back to doing what I love (working out) in a matter of 3 weeks.
These experiences showed me what women truly need to thrive. So I ditched spin classes and learned to create a well rounded strength and cardio regiment for women to easily follow and quickly see results. This has been life changing for myself and my clients. We are stronger, faster, healthier, and look a hell of a lot better.
Stop letting the distractions win. Strength training is the way to long term health and improved body composition.
